ECONOMIC STRENGTHENING 

Many families have low income to meet their household basic needs and have little left to invest in the education of children under their care. To break the vicious circle poor families unable to educate their children and because they can’t educate, they remain poor; PDI strongly believes in an economic strengthening approach as a strategy to make education a possible for all.

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT 

Pathways Development Initiatives invests in early childhood education to provide otherwise extremely vulnerable students with the opportunity to succeed in the government education system.  Most students in Bududa begin their education in primary school, at the age of six or seven.

Second Chance Education Project (SCEP) project is part of PDI’s economic strengthening efforts for young women who are dropped out of formal education to provide them an alternative pathways of obtaining skills throw none formal education.

DISTRICT LEARNING ASSESSMENTS ​

PDI is a district partner for UWEZO,   an initiative of Twaweza East Africa operating in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. Uwezo conducts annual large scale, citizen-led, household-based assessments that measure actual levels of children's literacy and numeracy across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, with the aim of increasing basic literacy and competencies among children ages 6-16.

SMALL BUSINESS LOAN PROGRAM 

Launched in 2017 the Small Business Loan Project intends to provide access to additional capital for those who are already members of a PDI Village Savings & Loan Associations (VSLA) group.  The small loans are intended to help members grow and or diversify their small businesses.  The micro loans range from $100- $500 per individual.

VILLAGE SAVING GROUPS

This is a two-year project being piloted in three sub counties of Bukigai, Bubiita & Bududa with intension of replicating the model to other sub-counties after 2014. Our target groups are: women, young adults school drop- outs, and underprivileged youth.
